New York–trained designer Viktor Luna recently returned to his childhood city of Los Angeles, where his mother, a talented seamstress in her own right, introduced him to fashion at the age of 7 and taught him the foundations of tailoring and construction. Luna further developed his skills at the Fashion Institute of Technology following his move to New York in 2001. After graduating, he was recruited as a production assistant for Zero Maria Cornejo prior to launching his first collection. He has since produced several collections and designed custom looks under his eponymous label.
Luna’s aesthetic is best described as bold and forward-thinking. He applies classic tailoring techniques to unexpected materials, textures, and color palettes to create provocative yet grounded pieces.
Luna showed his first collection, Spring 2012, at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week and has since presented collections at various Fashion Weeks in New York and Los Angeles and at El Paseo. Past collections have been featured in Elle Mexico, elle.com, French Vogue, The New York Times, Marie Claire, Rolling Stone, Harper’s Bazaar Mexico, Nylon Mexico, Out, and Diva magazines. His clothing has been worn by Adam Rippon, Mj Rodriguez, Missy Elliot, Laverne Cox, Ciara, Lil’ Kim, Carly Rae Jepsen, Iggy Azalea, Jackie Cruz, Ruby Rose, Big Boi, and Victoria Justice.
