Fashion Week 2010 Events
The fifth annual Fashion Week El Paseo unfolded in Palm Desert with a delectable new addition: Fashion Food & Wine. The venture paired everyone’s favorite passions — seeing the best in fashion design and enjoying impeccably prepared food with ultra-premium champagnes as well as some of the world’s top varietals and vintages. Fashion Week El Paseo unfolded in the Big White Tent located at Larkspur and El Paseo.
Saturday, March 20-22
The Shops on El Paseo Official Opening “Trunk” Show. The Shops on El Paseo kicked off Fashion Week El Paseo with a luxury “trunk” show. Retailers at the desert’s premier shopping destination were paired with a 2010 luxury import vehicle provided by Desert European Motorcars. The trunk of every car, displayed in front of each store, was filled with gifts provided by The Shops on El Paseo retailers. Guests had an opportunity to open a trunk and win the gifts inside. Participating retailers included St. John, Vilebrequin, Cos Bar, Optical Shop of Aspen, Heather James Art and Antiquities, and Soma. Select boutiques also hosted individual in-store trunk shows.

El Paseo Fashion's Day Out! El Paseo stores opened their doors to welcome guests with a day of fun and excitement. Participating stores offered trunk shows, personal appearances, demonstrations, gift with purchase, wine and hors d’oeuvres, informal modeling and much more.
The adventure started at the Big White Fashion Tent on Larkspur Lane, just off of El Paseo, where you received your El Paseo Passport. By entering a minimum of five participating shops, restaurants, and other establishments on El Paseo, you received a sticker for your passport at each location.
To end your day was by going to our El Paseo Fashion Day Out! After Party held at the new location of J Russell! The Salon on the corner of El Paseo and Highway 111. For admission you presented your passport, and then you were automatically entered to win fabulous prizes! Enjoy fine wine and food tastings to swinging sounds while you chat with your friends, meet new ones, and dance the dusk away.

Runway Bar El Paseo Fashion Show featured designs from 15 top El Paseo stores. A sellout each year, this show ranged from one-of-a-kind designs by local designers to name brands from around the world. Its narrative impressed as El Paseo’s sophistication came to life as a dynamic, world-class fashion destination. During the pre-show you could enjoy hors d’oeuvres courtesy of Jensen’s Catering.

ASID Project Runway had top ASID-member interior designers who used materials from their trade — fabrics, tiles, and paints — to design innovative creations in high fashion based on art works from the Passionate Pursuit exhibition that was at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Fashion designs from around the world converged on El Paseo for an evening of adventure. You were guided to known centers of design — Paris, New York, London, Milan, and the emerging Bahamas, Africa, and California to discover the latest in well-known styles and hidden gems of emerging artistry. Top graduate students from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) presented their collections in the West Coast design juggernaut Debut 2010. If you wanted to stay ahead of the curve and see what truly is next as interpreted by California’s premier design school, you wanted a front-row seat. All designers were in attendance to provide a special chance to hear what inspired them.

Men’s Night. Rugged, refined, sexy, and sophisticated men’s fashions took to the runway in one of the most spirited evenings of the week. Jamie Paul Holahan, director of design for Liz Claiborne Swimwear at Sirena, has been designing swimwear for more than 15 years. He has created collections for Tommy Bahama, Quiksilver, Nautica, Pac Sun, and other well-known brands. His dress shirts are adorned with flowers, dragons, and hearts and embellished with crosses, barbed wire, or something else out of the norm.

Designer of the Week Fashion Show on stage, featured a couture fashion designer. Colleen Quen's magnificent couture designs graced our runway Saturday night. Colleen selected by San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for its Muse Campaign celebrating its 75th anniversary and showcasing the emotional connections between people and art. Quen insisted on working every piece in her collections by hand, using centuries-old techniques. “I’m really obsessed with the shape and how it complements the body,” she said, “but also with making it very unusual, trying to extract out a new form.” Couture at it's finest!

Official Fashion Week El Paseo Closing Event - We celebrated an evening of art, fashion, food & wine at Fashion Week El Paseo's closing party! The event featured the photo based works of Peter Gurnz and Ben Cope, and the architectural designs of Tuesday's ASID Runway Show, with cutting edge fashion presented by BoxEIGHT. Some where among the first to preview Peter Gurnz' newest photo art book "we are all kids...NAKED + BEAUTIFUL" at Melissa Morgan Fine Art, 73040 El Paseo, Palm Desert. 760-341-1056

The 2nd annual Desert Cities Charity Bachelor Auction Under the big white Fashion Tent was a Man-Tini Cocktail Reception, well named for the occasion. Twelve local bachelors started the evening off mixing and mingling with 400 desert women who were out to have fun and give their support to Shelter From the Storm. Dinner, sponsored by Castelli’s Ristorante was paired with wines from Heck Estates and of course the Bachelor Auction was part of the ticket price for the evening. Set on the dynamic Fashion Week runway, the Bachelors promoted their date packages that ranged from a private 72 yacht cruising San Diego Bay for eight, a weekend in Carmel playing golf on Clint Eastwood’s private golf course to a Phantom Evening with additional gifts of botox, facials, massage and more!
All of the auction proceeds went to support Shelter From The Storm, a local charity that provides comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence. For more information contact Diana Marlo at 760-773-5000.

Fine Dining and Premium Wine Tasting. This featured 10 celebrity chef demonstrations, 35 of the top fine dining restaurants from throughout Southern California, and more than 40 premium wine and champagne purveyors courtesy Young’s Market -The Estates Group.
Sunday, March 28
Live Fire Grilling and Wine and Microbrewery Tasting - This featured 10 celebrity chef demonstrations; 30 of the top grill, brick oven, and live fire restaurants throughout Southern California; and more than 25 wines and beers and lagers.
